A Bright Sunny Day In Mexico City

The next day, Monday, December 19, 2011, my first day in Mexico City after I've arrived last night my tour guide wanted to bring me back to Zocalo to see how it's going there during the daytime. He told me that it will be totally different from my experiences from last night.

We woke up around 0900H and started to prepare for the long day. This will be my first day in the city I never know of. Judging with my experiences last night it was quite a good city I think. After enjoying our morning coffee in the room we talked out on what places to go today and we have agreed to just concentrate at the Zocalo and around the vicinity.

We went down to the lobby and decided to leave the car at the basement parking. We took the taxi and my handsome tour guide instructed the driver to drop us of at the Alameda Park. The streets were back to normal again after all those crowds from last night's festivities. The traffic was sparse and the streets were as usual.

We disembarked at the park and the fair booths were still there but apparently were close and tucked in well. We went to the white curve structure at one of the corner of the park and snapped some pictures at the nice sculptural structure there with the monument of the one of the late president. From there we ambled towards the Zocalo on the main street.

From the park we can see the TransLatino Tower built in the 1950's and was dubbed as the tallest building during those period. I just can't stop snapping pictures while we walked towards the downtown area.

Along the way we passed by at the Palacio de las Artes Bellas. It was a very beautiful building with intricate designs and sculptures made by an Italian architect and engineer. The dome of the building was colored mixed yellow-orange and it was very beautiful from afar. This building was now an opera and stage building and the design appears antique and Italian inspired. We also took a lot of pictures from all angles and tried to explore the square around it. There were a lot of people also there on this sunny day.

We then continued on the main street and stopped in front of the TransLatino Tower and take more pictures. I've heard that the building is also open to the public and had an observation deck and a revolving restaurant. At that time when we were there I didn't knew about it so we continued to amble and stopped at the Palacio Postal. Have I known it we should have gone on top and took more aerial view of the city.

We made a left turn on the main street and took another major street towards the corner block where the Palacio Postal or the Post Office is situated. The building was a rectangular old building with gilded trimmings on top and occupies one whole block on that major street. We went through the door at the corner and went it.

Inside it was very shimmery and colored gold everywhere. My tour guide have told me that some of the trimmings of the stairs are made of pure gold, no wonder there were a lot of police and securities patrolling around the building. The lifts are looking vintage and the stairs are intricately beautiful. At the ground floor there was a huge Christmas Tree standing there and adjacent to the tree is a replica of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem or we called it Belen.

We went up through the stairs and started to snap more pictures of the trimmings as well as all the corners and floors of the building. The building is a two-story structure and very norms. The postal office employees were very buy at their booths accepting letters to be mailed from th customers and they didn't mind us at all snapping pictures.

We went out of the building and we walked further down a small alley and continued ambling towards Plaza Tolsa where the sculpture of El Caballito was standing. I've read about the story of El Caballito made by a famous Mexican sculpture and the structure was been moved around the city several times until it found it's final spot in front of Plaza Tolsa which is a museum of some of finest Mexican Arts and Paintings. In front of Plaza Tolsa is another huge building of the school of fine arts and adjacent to that school on the right is a red small church with some of the old Indian Chiefs plastered relief were found on the side of the church. I just can't stop snapping pictures everywhere.

From there I told my tour guide that I am hungry already because it was already past noon. After our hearty lunch we ambled towards the Zocalo and there we saw a lot of people around the big square near the tallest Christmas Tree and the Ice Skating Rink. The sidewalks were also teeming with vendors and people making us squeeze ourselves elbow to elbow with he passersby.

We decided to cross the street across the giant Christmas Tree and ambled around the big square and also went o check out the ice skaing rink which was full of people watching and skating. It was just like a big fiesta there. We also took some picturs near the huge christmas tree and also the church at the background.

We then cross the church again and went to the Metropolitan Church which was placed adjacent to a little chapel. We went in to the biggest church and checked out the inside then we decided to buy some tickets to see the bell tower. On top of the belfry we saw the whole area teeming with people celebrating the holiday season with their families. e also snapped some pictures of the aerial view of the whole Zocalo as well as the nearby building like the Palacio Nacional and the surrounding business establishments here with decors on their walls. It was a very fascinating sight to see above the bell tower.

We also listened to the explanations of our tour guide at the bell tower about the history of each bell as well as it's origination and also the history of the two churches erected side by side. It was a very big church for a very big city with a population of more that two million people.

After the tour a the bell tower we then went to the chapel beside the cathedral and also checked out the inside part. Then we went to the sidewalk and perused the crowded streets. We saw some native indiands with their feathered garb and headresses dancing to their thumping drum music equipped with incense smoke. We also snapped some pictures of them.

After that we went to check out the Templo Mayor but apparently the museum was close on a MOnday. How did I forgot about that? I didn't know that they close on a Monday. I was just Italy where the museums were also close on a Monday.

We were planning to check the Palacio Nacional nearby but we were thinking that it might be close because it is Monday so we brushed the plan to go there. Since it was almost dark at 1800H plus we looked tired we decided to amble back to the parking lot where we parked the car. While walking towards the parking lot we saw the Turibus so we decided to take the night tour.

We bought two tickets and boarded the bus enjoying the beauty of the streets and the buildings around the city. The tour lasted about one hour and we were tired when we got back at the original point but we decided to unload near the hotel so we went down on the mall near there.

We were so tired for the whole day walk and sightseeing but we were so excited of the things that we've seen and done. It was an overloaded experience for the whole day but it's worth it.
We were hungry when we got back at the hotel so we decided to eat the the hotel's restaurant. Then we went back to our room and called it a long day.

Day two was quite hectic but we were o happy we've done it t save our time. Next up the next day we were planning to go to the Guadalupe Shrine and go to see the Pyramids in Teotihuacan. Then from there we will go directly to Puebla to spend our third day.

Oh how magnificent it was to have done this journey with a very wonderful tour guide, a very caring person, and very hospitable one. I don't ask for more because I was content of what he'd done for this trip. Thank God!

Feeling The Mexican Christmas

I was picked up at the airport by a very goodlooking tourist guide and the chemistry between us had sparked the moment we introduced ourselves. It was just like an impulsive nature that he hugged me upon seeing me and he told me how cute I am.

I was blushing when he told me that. I can also sensed his excitement judging with the sparkle of her us and the jittery introduction he made when he introduced himself at me. I was just quiet and dumbfounded about the whole set-up and I didn't know what to expect but I know there will good things happening the following minutes, hours, and days. What is it... I don't know yet. And I don't want to know either.

He politely guided me to his car and gently helped me with my luggage. I felt I will swoon inside me for his warm touch and I never recalled how many times we've touched but it feels good. I am awestrucked.

When we settled my luggage at the trunk of his car we left the airport and took the freeway heading to the hotel I had booked and checked in. In the car he was just bubbling words I don't understand explaining about his country and what to do there. We decided on some plans and we immediately clicked with each other.

We arrived at the hotel and I immediately checked in and dropped my luggaged at the room. He doesn't want to waste the time so he told me that he will show me to some good places that night where I can see how Mexico City loves tourist.

We went down to the lobby and headed to the car then he drove towards the center of the city in the downtown area. He told me he will bring me to Zocalo that night. Zocalo is the biggest plaza in Mexico City where they held events such like Christmas and other occasions. In the past, the Zocalo is the place where they held demonstrations and rallies.

We passed by the Alameda Park yet when right now was been converted as the fair place where you can see some booths selling things like what you've seen in the carnival or fair. There were rides and ferris wheel also trying to invite passersby to have some fun.

When we were near the traffic becomes thicker and the streets were teeming with some locals and tourists alike trying to enjoy the good warm weather and the festivities of the Christmas season. Every street were so crowded that the car drove to a dragging speed.

We finally spotted a good parking structure after the long hpurs drive and then we disembarked and walked towards the so called Zocalo near the Metropolitan Church and the Palacio Nacional.

The streets were adorned with glittering Christmas lights of various colors, size, and sparkles. It was very festive and heralding that the Christmas season is just within the air. The ZOcalo was teeming with the locals and other people. It was just crazy every where but it was fun.

There were peddlers and sellers on the streets. Young and old people, friends and families trying to enjoy and capture the moment of Christmas in the town.

There was a big sparkling Christmas Tree at the center of the plaza as well as a built-in skiing ice rink full of ice skaters. There were also booths for goods and mementos you can only see mad ein Mexico.

We roamed around and try to enjoy the craziness of the crowd. It was very crowded but still the fun and the noises were so deafening in the ears. But at least I have enjoyed it.

When we got tired we went out of the crowd and headed to the parking lot. We decide dto eat first because I was super hungry and tired as well. We went to the VIPS restaurant equivalent to Dennys in the US where they cater for late night orders.

After a hearty dinner we immediately went to the parking lot and got the car and then drove back to the hotel. I was super tried already and we call it a day.

I had a blast on my first night in Mexico City and I know I didn't regretted coming here. My tourist guide had been taken cared of me very well.

Bound For Mexico City

December 18, 2011, it was an early cold-dark Sunday at 0615H I got out from work at the facility and headed home to ready for my early flight to San Francisco via a local United Airlines flight.

I got home and hurried to check my luggage if everything I needed to bring were inside it and then I changed from my scrub to a jeans, T-shirt, and sneakers garb and then went to knock at my landlord's door because he will drop me off at the airport.

I think I woke up my landlord early but he is very charming to have answered the door and willingly drove me to the airport.

Upon dropping me off at the airport I thanked him and then we bade good bye. He wished me a good trip and whispered on my left ear to enjoy everything out there. I was smiling when he told me that and then we gave a big tight hug to each other.

At 0845H I checked in at the counter then fall in line at the security checked which I whisked without any problems. My flight leaves at 0915H so I still have an ample time to drink some coffee.

I looked for a Starbuck's Coffee Chain and then bought a tall hot caramel macchiato. After finishing up the coffee I went to the gate and waited for the boarding. We boarded on time and then left for San Francisco. The flight was very smooth without any predictable events happened.

When we de-board in san Francisco I immediately checked the flight information at the TV screen and then headed to the exact gate where to board for another plane heading to Mexico City.

While waiting my excitement inside me had been roiling up and I felt I am about to throw up but good thing I didn't ate any solid food that time of else I might have puked out there at the airport's floor.

We left San Francisco at 1200H and endured the 3-hour-long flight south going to Mexico City. The flight was very smooth and without any problems happened along the way except that the children behind me were very noisy and hyper. They were shouting and crying and climbing and were everywhere. Oh my God it was a total chaos.

We arrived in Mexico City at 1910H and it was already dark. The weather was nice and warm. We immediately lined down near the Immigration Line and were been questioned about our purpose of visit. I greatly managed to go through the line and headed where to retrieve my luggages without any problems at all.

I then went out to the meeting area and waited for my ride. While waiting I decided to change my dollars to the local money they have then texted my pick-up. I instructed him that I will wait at the vending machine near the ladies restroom and then he spotte dme immediately using the exact description I gave him.

He was cute and very gentlemanly. I was glad I decided to hire him as my tourist guide.

Well, I don't know what to expect from this trip but I am rest assured well because I know what will happen to me especially having to have this handsome tourist guide. God knows what will happen and I don't want to know.

For the meantime, I will let the time tell me what will happen on this trip and I can't seem to wait for it. I am very excited for it to be realized.

Mexican Expectations

Tomorrow I will be leaving to Mexico and I am very excited to see what Mexico has to offer. I cannot wait for it to happen. Yay!

I am so grateful that I know this guy from a friend who is willing to meet me in Mexico and show me some nice places there. It would be convenient for me because he can also speak Spanish and I don't have to worry looking silly talking to a local in my broken Spanish.

My goal in going to Mexico is to peruse some of the churches around the city especially the church where they keep the apparition things of the Lady of Guadalupe. I am also expecting to see some good museums whom I read online and also see some nice paintings of the famous Mexican painter Diego Luna whose murals were famous around the world.

My next goal is to see the Aztec ruins which my new found friend is willing to drive me there. I hope this trip will be a good and productive one.

I will also visit Frida Kahlo's house to see her paintings and hear her story. Also I will taste some superb Mexican cuisines and drinks. Oh.... I can't just wait to have done that.

Well, tonight I am at work and can't get my excitement abate. I am so damn excited to leave and bask in a warm Mexican city rather than the cold and nippy air of Los Angeles.

I have packed already and just can't wait to drag my luggages to the airport and then start my sojourn and chronicle my experiences.

I hope this trip will be a fruitful one and can't wait to do it.

Computer Savvy

Hello there guys! I am happy to be back again blogging here. I am quite a bit of a bind lately but I know I have to keep blogging to keep myself abreast with my online journal. And here I am now doing one more article just for my avid reader to check.

Lately, at work everything was very tense. We've just transitioned from the old paper and pencil charting and documentation to a more sophisticated and modern way of keeping records of our residents in the facility. What I mean is that we've gone to an extensive transformation in documentation and hopefully it will continue because it looks cool to me.

The new Vision-EMR is a new tool to record resident's data about their illness, helps taff enter physician's orders, do their system-to-system based assessment, and create of devise a care plan for each disease triggered planning, as well as make a thorough discharge planning for the resident to follow.

Change is always stressful but we always have to adapt to it. Things in our life happens because of change. We just don't like to be static or stagnant and just be contented to be out-of-date or what they always called "old school".

As technology progresses man's attitude towards getting sophisticated does not stop at a certain time or period. I mean we evolved along with the time so that change can happen.

I know a lot of people resist the transition but based on my observation everything went well. Staff went to a five session class without any problem although there were few clamors but not very major to be a problem.

The classes had almost finished and we were able to go live and applied what we've learned from tha class. There were some minor setbacks but all in all it was a total success. There were help staff on standby just in case there were problems and so far every thing were in order. We've transitioned tacitly and with good results.

On my part, I have some few glitches but I ran through it and able to learn from it. My first admission was been documented through the computer and at first it took me five hours to input all the data. My this resident was a readmission and there were a lot of information to put including the orders, assessment, and care plans. It was a pain yet very informative and educational. Now, I can vow that whenever I will have another admission for sure I know now what to do.

It was breather to have done it on my own and I am glad the management thought of transitioning our facility. At least for me this is the most efficient way to fast track my documentation because I am good in typing rather than writing. It saves my time as well as it makes me more productive.

Change is good actually if we are receptive to it. At first it's gonna be difficult but as we adapt to the process we cannot even tell that we have done it.

The world is just a better place to live in if all of us are accustomed to change. Don't just get stuck there. Live to the echoes of a new millennium. Embrace change and life will not be the same again.

Christmas Is In The Air

Yeah, I'm back again for my blogging. It seems that the spirit of the Holidays can be perceived and sniffed everywhere. The whole town is already bursting with the anticipation for the coming Holidays.

On my way to work I can see some residential houses adorned with glittering and colorful lights around their houses and yards. Decorations were been adorned everywhere. It seems that the homeowners really put some extra time to set-up everything in order to caught some of the passersby attention.

At work, I can see some decorations already being put up by the staff and the residents. We were having a transition with the charting system and we've just started it live but amidst the hustle and bustle of the Holidays we still had overcame some glitches.

The nippy air of the afternoon on my way to work was very imminent now. I have to wear two layers of clothing already and have to put on my fancy scarf. In as much as I have to celebrate the cold weather I have to protect myself from the harsh reality that my health is not conducive to it already. In short, I am getting old.

I never been to the mall lately but I know despite of the itch of the economy people are still busy wrapping up their last shopping for their presents. People has to give something to their love ones even in a small way.

Others are still planning what to prepare for the Christmas Eve. Some company or offices will hold their Christmas Party and exchange gifts with everyone. That's the spirit of Christmas emulating the spirit of giving.

Christmas is the best time of the year for me because I got to share my time in feeding homeless people at the shelter on Christmas Day. I will be working on Christmas Eve so I have to do my voluteering the next day.

I will also visit some senior elderly people at the nursing home. I had visited them last year but apparently one of them died 6 months ago so there were four left for me to visit. These people were just close to me when me and my students had a clinical rotation sometime in 2009.

The radios were emanating the Christmas music which really hollered thatn Christmas is already in the air. The songs from the radio really reminded me that it is already Christmastime. It brought me back to the time when I was still a very ambitious boy in my native hometown in the Philippines and our tradition of singing carols from house to house and getting paid for it despite of our off tunes.

Christmas is the time of the year that the family became closer and stromng. Unlike me, I live alone here in the United States so I don't have a family to spend my Holidays. Yet despite of it I know I can manage tomake it possible on my own terms.

Aaah.... Christmas is the time where the whole world celebrates the validity of Jesus' birth yet it's not. Christmas means us to do it everyday because there are people who needs our help in anyway every day.

As Christmas is drawing near we have to also allow ourselves to remember that Jesus had saved us from the sins of our forefathers and this will call for us to thank Jesus for saving us from doom.

Christmas is all over and we must sniff it and enjoy the best it has to offer. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and all!
