A Day At The Griffith Observatory

It's Sunday, and it's Easter Day. The sun is out and the weather is incredibly cool.

After going to church I called my best friend George to go out visit the Hollywood Hills. So we opted to drive up to where the observatory is. It was been a long time when I went there, so we decided to go up the hilly side of Los Angeles.

I picked-up my friend and we drove straight on Vermont Avenue until we reached the Loz Feliz area. The traffic was unexpectedly smooth but when we got to the Greek Theatre area we noticed that the traffic was a dizzying rat race. What could we expect, its Easter Sunday and people are outdoors enjoying the feel of the nice weather with their families, setting out blankets on the lush green playground playing and talking to each other.

We stopped by the Greek Theatre to take pictures but the parking lot was apparently full so we decided to drive and head up the inclined hill and go directly to the observatory. When we were up there the parking was even harder and I have to intentionally turn around and let Kuya George guard the spot that was just vacated by the two burly guys whom we saw entering the biege Toyota Camry.

After I parked my car on that spot, we have to face the reality of climbing the hill on foot. There were a lot of people going up for the purpose of seeing the Griffith Observatory, some were leaving down the hill already with wide satisfying grins and happy faces. People young and old, adult and children, locals and tourists, and people of diverse ethnicity and race were seen coming and leaving the site. The climb was very tedious, punishing, and tiring but the moment we got to our destination the sight was awesomely spectacular.

On the west side of the hill we can visualize the famous Hollywood sign standing gallantly and proudly on the bare portion of the Hollywood hills. I immediately took out my portable camera and shot few pictures of the famous site.

We then headed to the grounds of the observatory. The deep green lawn appeared well-manicured where people are sitting with their folks talking and taking pictures, capturing the wholesome image of the newly renovated building. The building was been closed for a year for renovations and gone are those gold painted domes... now colored vintage green. And the walls appeared to be newly painted, too.

We went inside the edifice and checked the exhibits and shows. We also took some pictures of the building's well decorated interior. People were just excited, eager, and curious about the exhibits and the children were even explorative with the displayed telescopes, manipulating every bit of it and trying to pretend that they saw the galaxy from the bright blue sky on a broad daylight. The exhibits were all informative and educational.

After perusing the exhibits we went out through the backdoor and there we can see the view of downtown Los Angeles from a distance. We also took several pictures but my Nikon digital camera ran out of battery so I opted using my iPhone's camera. We went to the spacious rooftop and continued taking few more pictures. The wind was intensely blowing hard and explicitly cold but the bright sun was proudly out and warm. Over all it was a nice warm day.

After an hour we went down from the rooftop and left the place. People are still coming eagerly and leaving the place joyously and satisfied. Even the parking area is still extremely full.

Kuya George cautiously asked me if we could hike up a little bit towards the Hollywood sign but I told him that my stomach was already growling. In short, I was extremely hungry after the tiring climb and one hour of roaming and touring the place. So we decided to leave and look for something to eat.

We went down the hill and drove around Los Feliz area to find some nice outdoor restaurant. Inside the car, we agreed and decided to eat salad so I brought him at The Figaro. We immediately spotted an open metered parking and headed to the restaurant. The restaurant is French-themed and very tylish.

I ordered an endive salad with sugar-coated walnuts and Kuya George ordered a romaine lettuce salad with pink caviar and succulent shrimp dressing and the drinks were a concoction of raspberry-mint and mango-mint which looks authentic and tasted awesome.

After we ate, we drove to "The Grove" and decided to watch "Fast and the Furious". The movie was full of high-energy and full of high-powered action. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker matured a little bit but they still look awe-inspiring and captivatingly handsome.

After we satisfactorily watched the movie, I have to drive Kuya off at his flat and then I have to go home and prepare for my planned activities tomorrow. I will have a clinical class with Batch 8 at Imperial Crest Healthcare Center.

All in all, the day was fun-filled and stress free. I can't even complain.
