Pacquiao's The Name

Manny Pacquiao catapulted himself in the sports of boxing with alot of determination and grit. He was the Filipino people's inspiration and sport's hero that's why he was dubbed as the people's champ in their hearts.

Pacquaio grew up in the slums of General Santos City, Cotabato in Mindanao. At a young age he was forced to work early to help his mom feed the family. He secretly challenged and trained himself into joining boxing without the knowledge of his parents which eventually was accepted by them later.

He was a high school drop out but he was determined to school himself in order not to be left out. He never stopped to learn from his past experiences and he always never forget to thank God for his sudden success that's why he emerged as the people's champ because of his humility.

His humility to accept his shorthcomings and the disparaging comments of his detractors fascinated a lot of people. And that's how people had admired him.

On the earlier part of his boxing career he was affected by a lot of bad and bitter experiences personally and in sports which even prompted him to stop for a while and pick up his shattered pieces.

And when he came back to fight for his bantamweight class in the 90's with Juan Antonio Barrera in San Antonio, TX he was a totally different and refined person and his success starts to catapult and take off there.

His last name in Tagalog terms as "pakyaw" means to collect every items or objects in whole especially used in the field of marketing.

That's why with his current standing in the boxing arena, he has almost collected seven champioship belts in seven different weight classes. Hence, his last name suggest it because he already collected all the important weight class belts in the sports of boxing.

As an Ilonggo, one of the major dialect in central Philippines, Pacquiao has the same connotative meaning.

When someone goes to the market and buy all the items in bulk or in wholesale, the term is called "pakyawan". It almost sounds as the last name of Manny Pacquaio, the now world welterweight boxing champ and six other lower weight classes champion.

As his last name says, he will collect all the belts the boxing sports will have. And this is the guy who just won't stop to mark himself in the sports and whom the whole world will watch out. Not only his name can suggest and attest to it, but he is the world's best pound for pound boxer. And he earned that title with his blood and sweat at stake.

He was also named "PacMan" in relation to the famous computer game in the 80's with the same name which is a round face situated in a labyrinth or maze which has the capacity to eat everything on the way in order to gain points. And Manny's nickname suggest everything like that in the computer game. May be he was named after that game. What a coincidence!

And to all boxing fanatics out there please watch out when Manny collects or "pakyaw" all the legitimate belts in the boxing sports as he climbed up to different weight classes and capture all the distinctive honors. My hat's off to this very adorable little guy full of humility and courage.

And to all his detractors I hope you all know now where to lean your judgment. I hope the little guy prove you all wrong. And next time please don't judge the book by it's cover because the real truth will gonna bite you.

Pacquiao is the name..... meaning to take something in bulk, or buy everything in wholesale. And his name has proved and raised  some truth to it. He is now the number one pound for pound boxing fighter in the world.

Viva Manny Pacquiao! You are my country's hero, the pride of the Filipinos.... and I am proud to be one.
