Hi guys! By the way, it's the 1st of September and it's Labor Day. Happy Labor Day to all of you!
My goal this month is to be happy and live my life to the fullest. Last month was a sad month for me. A lot had happened to me for the past four weeks.
My life turned upside down greatly with the passing of my beloved mom. I'm still mourning and grieving her passing. But in order not to succumb myself in self-pity and depression I have to amuse myself and live life without worries.
The other day, I met up with my college friends. We had so much fun under the sun. Hehehe.
Initially, we had lunch at Megan Grill in Carson, CA and after that we went to Fashion Island Mall and Newport Beach in Orange County, CA.
We had a full day of getting together and talked about our college experiences. A lot of funny memories were recalled and we laughed crazily at them.
And yesterday me and my high school buddy set out a trip to San Diego, CA to leave the busy life of Los Angeles. It just crossed our mind to travel and enjoyed the beauty of nature as well as the beautiful attractions of San Diego.
While driving along Interstate 5 we vividly recalled our high school memories. We talked about it, laughed at it, and loved what we did. We had a lot of fun while driving and it was a smooth ride.
Firstly, we went to Cabrillo National Monument at Point Loma where we visited my passion to see and visit a lighthouse. We were driving using a GPS and we followed and heed every instructions from it. The last direction it instructed us was to make a left at Electric Avenue and we eagerly followed it.
The direction led us to enter a gate where some security personnel were guarding the gate heavily. When the security guard stopped us and asked us about our purpose I gingerly (I am not used of being interrogated) told him that we were heading to see the famous Point Loma lighthouse. He told us that we entered a military base.
I then apologized and politely asked him how we could get to the lighthouse. He eagerly gave me instructions for the directions and told me to just turn around and exited the gate.
When we got out of the gate we made a left turn and followed the long road until it ends at the Cabrillo National Monument near a cliff. We continued driving until we saw the lighthouse from a distance and looked for a parking place at their very spacious parking lot.
Then when we were arriving at the parking lot, the GPS was saying that we just arrived at our destination. Me and my friend looked at each other and laughed out loud because the GPS had actually brought us into trouble by bringing us to the military base earlier. That was a very embarrasing experience for us.
The second funny thing also happened at the park. When we were looking for a restroom at the visitor's information center, I could not hold off my urge to pee anymore so I went in to look for the restroom. When I spotted one at the corner end of the building I went in it right away.
When I got out my friend followed and peed. When he got out from the room we noticed that the men's restroom was on the other side adjacent to the one we went in. We realized that we went in at the hadicapped restroom as seen on the sign in front of it, instead of the regular men's restroom.
That's why we were puzzled that we have to manipulate the door stopper before going in. We both laughed at what we just did and just shrugged our shoulders. We weren't even reading instructions before we went in.
Thirdly, when we were roaming around the Point Loma lighthouse, we were in awe of the whole park and the lighthouse itself. We were so engrossed and immersed in taking a lot of pictures to document our travel.
When we came near the lighthouse we realized that it was open. We went in and excitedly browsed the entire house until we decided to take a look of the lantern tower.
My friend was so eager to see it when we didn't realized that it was off for the public to view it. We didn't saw the sign placed on the stairs that it was off for the public to go upstairs.
We gingerly went down and again laughed at what we just did. We were so excited to see the house without even reading proper instructions and regulations. That was so not us. Hehehe.
Fourthly, it was past lunch time when we left the park. We were so hungry that we decided to eat seafood at the nearby restaurant. We looked for the Point Loma Seafood House and there were a lot of customers lining for orders when we arrived.
With our previous embarrasing experiences I wanted to be sure there's no more mistakes this time. I can't stand getting embarrased again. I then carefully read the menu at the bulletin board and then checked what we will be ordering.
Noticing that the line was long enough, I thought there were numbers being handed out for the line in order to buy food.
So I boldly asked the old man standing on my left where to get the number, if there is any. He cheerfully told us that we need to make some order first then the cashier/waiter will hand us the number, once we made our orders. Then he told us not to be shy in making our orders.
He probably thought and said that because we look so out from there, strange looking, and very confused. Me and my friend looked at each other and was just smiling about the old man's nonchalant comment.
Fifthly, when we went to see the USS Midway Museum, we encountered another funny experience. USS Midway Museum was a huge US Navy Aircraft carrier. Bigger than three cathedral church combined. The whole ship looks enormous and great docking majestically at the San Diego shoreline.
We went and arrived there at 4:00 pm thinking to tour around the place. We were huffing and puffing just to beat the closing time and be there early. In our haste we noticed that the ticket booth were all closed and nobody's lining up anymore. But we still noticed a lot of people were touring on top of the ship. So we decided to ask the nearby booth guard if they're still selling for tickets or accepting some visitors to come up.
The guard apologetically told us that the musuem was already closed and advised us to just have to go back tommorow at 10 am when they reopen in the morning. My friend and I felt so sorry and sad that we missed the closing time despite of our haste in this hot weather. We just looked at each other and just shrugged our shoulders again as if we failed ourselves.
So we decided to just leave San Diego and go to Oceanside, CA to visit Camp Pendleton.
When we arrived at Oceanside after thirty minutes we followed again what the GPS had instructed us. We were so happy and eager that we will see how the camp looks like.
When we arrived there our car lined up at the gate entrance. While lining up I noticed that the guards checked some identification from each car that goes and comes in. I also noticed that all the people that comes in appears military looking with shaved or buzzed head.
Me and my friend looked at each other again and suspiciously smiling at each other. I have a bad feeling about this again. We could not even turn around now because the line was too long and it is impossible to do so. I have a bad feeling about this, so I deviced a perfect alibi.
When we were nearing the gate the guard stopped our car and asked me about our purpose to enter the camp. Again, I gingerly told him that we got lost and was looking for downtown Oceanside and if he can tell us where the direction is, we will surely appreciate it.
The handsome and cute military guard who looked like a teenager smiled at me and politely instructed me of the direction. We then made a U-turn and exited the base.
Well, it was a day full of funny things, apart from my depressive and grieving state. At least I had a little fun for a day with my friend and I couldn't forget it. At least I have learned a lot from this teeny-tiny-little mistakes we made. Though it was embarrasing yet it was so funny and I have learned a lot from it.
This experiences spice up life and life is so boring if we don't have such experiences like them. Aaah.... life is always full of surprises.
